Italy's post-war urban mobility answer, the Fiat Nuova 500 launched in 1957 with a rear-mounted 479cc air-cooled twin producing just 13 hp, later enlarged to 499cc and 18 hp. Its tiny dimensions and cheerful styling made it a symbol of Italy's economic miracle and 1960s street culture.
