Built by Karmann in Osnabrück, the Type 1 Cabriolet ran from 1949 to 1980 alongside the saloon. The early 1970s cars used the 1300–1600cc air-cooled flat-four. Exceptionally durable open-top versions now command a healthy premium over equivalent closed Beetles.
