The Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible was Ford's full-size prestige drop-top, produced through the late 1960s into the early 1970s. By the final generation (1969–1974), it rode on a massive 121-inch wheelbase and was powered by a range of FE and 385-series V8 engines, including the 390 and 429 cubic-inch options. A quintessential American boulevard cruiser, the Galaxie 500 convertible represented the peak of American full-size open-top motoring before tightening emissions regulations and the oil crisis effectively ended the era of large, affordable convertibles. Survivors in good condition are increasingly appreciated as classic American iron.
