The Audi 80 B3 (Type 89) was produced from 1986 to 1991 and represented a significant leap in design and engineering for the nameplate. It was the first Audi 80 to feature a fully galvanized body, offering excellent rust resistance for the era — backed by a 10-year anti-corrosion warranty. The B3 shared its platform with the VW Passat B3 and was praised for its aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of just 0.29 Cd. Engine options ranged from modest 1.6L and 1.8L four-cylinders to a 2.0L unit and even a 2.0L 16-valve producing around 137 hp in top trim. A diesel variant was also offered. It was a mainstream executive compact that sold in very large numbers across Europe.
