About this car

The seventh-generation Buick Riviera (E-body platform) debuted for 1986, sharing its front-wheel-drive platform with the Oldsmobile Toronado and Cadillac Eldorado. It was a significant departure from its predecessors — smaller, more aerodynamic, and technologically ambitious with a touchscreen CRT display (one of the first in any production car). Powered by a 3.8-litre V6 producing around 140 hp (later a 3800 Series II variant arrived), it prioritised comfort and gadgetry over performance. The styling was clean and rounded for its era, though it never recaptured the dramatic presence of earlier Rivieras. A convertible variant was offered through American Sunroof Corporation (ASC). Production ran through 1993 when the nameplate was retired.
