The YJ was Jeep's first Wrangler-branded model, replacing the CJ series in 1987. Controversial for its rectangular headlights, it used a 2.5L four-cylinder or 4.2L/4.0L inline-six, retained solid axles, and remained a capable budget-priced off-roader throughout its 1987–1995 production run.
