About this car

The Mercedes-Benz W201, marketed as the 190-series (or '190E' for petrol variants), was Mercedes-Benz's entry into the compact executive car segment. Launched in 1982, it was the smallest Mercedes passenger car of its era and introduced several technologies that later trickled up to larger models, including a sophisticated multi-link rear suspension. The standard 190E 2.0 produced around 102 hp. It was produced until 1993, with nearly 1.88 million units built. A 1991 example would be a late-production car. The W201 is best remembered today as a sturdy, over-engineered compact saloon that has aged gracefully. Notable variants include the fire-breathing 190E 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 Evolution II — true DTM homologation specials — but the standard W201 remains an affordable classic.
