The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA (Grand Touring America) was the top-of-the-line variant of the third-generation F-body Firebird, introduced for the 1987 model year. Positioned above the standard Trans Am, the GTA package added luxury touches including leather interior, Delco-Bose sound system, and distinctive gold '5-spoke' Pontiac Aero aluminum wheels. Power came from GM's Tuned Port Injection 5.0L (305 cu in) V8 producing around 190–210 hp, or optionally the 5.7L (350 cu in) TPI V8 rated at 225–235 hp. With its aggressive third-gen aerobody styling, T-tops, and comprehensive performance and comfort package, the GTA represented the pinnacle of American personal luxury-sport in the late 1980s. It was heavily associated with the era's pop culture and remains a beloved symbol of late-'80s American performance.
