About this car
The original front-wheel-drive Golf launched in 1974, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro to replace the Beetle. Base models used a 1.1–1.5L four-cylinder engine. It redefined the compact hatchback segment and sold nearly seven million units worldwide before the Mk2 replaced it in 1983.
