Spot of the Week: Porsche 911 (997) Turbo (6-speed manual)

Any 911 Turbo is a good day. A 911 Turbo with three pedals is an event.

This week's spot is a white Porsche 911 (997) Turbo — and not just any 997 Turbo. The gear lever inside confirms the 6-speed manual, the version collectors quietly hunt while everyone else argues about lap times. Caught not in a city centre but on gravel, deep in the Estonian countryside, far from where you'd expect a supercar to live.

Why it matters

The 997 Turbo, launched in 2006, was the last Turbo powered by the legendary Mezger flat-six — the engine family with genuine Le Mans pedigree, famed for being close to indestructible. Its 3.6-litre twin-turbo unit made 480 hp, fed through all four wheels.

It was also a world first: the first petrol production car with variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbochargers — tech borrowed from diesels and made to survive exhaust gases hundreds of degrees hotter. The result was the holy grail of turbocharging: big-turbo top end with almost no lag.

And then there's the gearbox. Most buyers ticked the Tiptronic box. The manual was the enthusiast's choice — slightly slower on paper, infinitely better in the hands. Two decades later, the market agrees: the stick-shift cars are the ones appreciating.

White over black, standing on a gravel drive in Vinni vald, Estonia — about as far from a showroom as it gets. Rural spots like this are the best kind: nobody stumbles on a manual 997 Turbo by accident out here. You find one because you keep your eyes open everywhere.

The proof shot of the gear lever sealed it — this is the real enthusiast's spec, verified.
